A notice has appeared in newspapers that the #Mumbai metro rail Corporation wants to cut 444 trees in Aarey Forest in addition to the 3500 at the depot site bringing the total number of trees to be sacrificed in Aarey to 4000
Incidentally they had originally claimed in court that only 250 trees would be affected and concealed that the true figure was 3500. This was uncovered by the media a few months ago.
The tree authority has invited objections from the public before November 10th. We need to submit our objection in writing, through email or post. Let's all object and save the first batch of 444 trees from being cut.
Isn't public transport supposed to be a green project? Let's ask our government to build this metro responsibly and in an environmentally sustainable way.
Together we can and will #SaveAareyforest !
Here is a sample format for objection letters to be submitted by email before Friday,10th Nov 2017. You may of course rewrite or personalise it if you wish. At the end of the mail, ask an acknowledgement of the mail. Please share this petition and the update with friends.

Sir,
SUBJECT - Objection to cutting of 444 trees at Aarey Milk Colony for Metro-3 (Colaba-Seepz line)
I refer to your Public Notice inviting objections to cut/remove 137 + 307 = 444 trees at Aarey Milk Colony for Mumbai Metro 3 related work [Public Hearing on 10.11.2017]
I strongly object to any proposal to cut/remove trees at Aarey Colony.
This land is an eco-sensitive forested area and must be protected at all costs. The Mumbai Metro3 has several alternative options available.
Aarey Milk Colony must be protected from such needless destruction.
There is already a stay order by the National Green Tribunal, Pune,on any new construction in Aarey.
The Mumbai High Court is also hearing a petition in this regard.
I believe you should not give permissions to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) to remove these trees. Please acknowledge receipt of this objection.
Thanking You.
