Thanks for all the support, our fight continues. Please share the petition with friends and colleagues after reading this.
The National Green Tribunal has admitted a complaint filed by NGO Vanashakti against alleged illegal construction undertaken by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) in Aarey colony.
In its complaint Vanashakti said the work has started despite the NGT order of August 2015 (which is now 27 months!) to maintain a status quo. It also pointed out that MMRCL had filed an application before the NGT seeking permission to start work but started work without awaiting the tribunal's decision. Such disregard?
In its complaint it further said that the suburban collector issued excavation permission in violation of the NGT order. The NGT has issued a notice to MMRCL and posted the matter for hearing on November 10 which is also the date for our other hearing.
MMRC started work on the car shed in September after the state government denotified the 30 hectares from the green zone which has been challenged in the high court and the hearing goes on, as we speak.
The BMC general body had earlier rejected the proposal to locate the metro car shed in Aarey and wanted it to be maintained as a green zone. The overruling of which is undemocratic, in our opinion.
