The Issue

The Thompson homeless shelter is disrupting our community, and it's time we address the damage. As a resident affected by its presence, I've witnessed the profound negative impacts it has had on our area — increased crime rates, unmanageable noise levels, and a general decline in the quality of life for all residents. My personal experience is not unique; I know many others in our neighborhood who share my sentiments.

Once a peaceful and safe neighborhood, our streets now feel unsafe and less welcoming, particularly at night. Families that used to stroll freely or enjoy neighborhood parks are now hesitant or avoid these spaces altogether.

It's time for local government to take action and close the Thompson homeless shelter. However, in doing so, we must address the broader systemic issue of homelessness in our city. We propose reallocating resources from the Thompson shelter to create a more sustainable, safe, and supportive solution for those experiencing homelessness without disrupting surrounding communities.

By closing the shelter and redirecting efforts towards comprehensive and empathetic long-term solutions, we can restore harmony in our neighborhood while still supporting those in need.

It's essential for city policymakers to hear our voices and recognize the unintended consequences of poorly placed shelters. We can find and implement better solutions that cater to everyone’s needs.

Sign this petition to urge our city officials to close the Thompson homeless shelter and work towards alternatives that benefit both our community and provide dignified solutions for the homeless population. Together, we can make positive change that reflects the best interests of all involved.
