Many talented women athletes struggle daily, not just on the field, but in meeting basic living expenses. My own family and friends, alongside local citizens, work tirelessly in their sports careers, yet they earn so little that covering normal utilities becomes a daunting task. This shouldn't be a reality for dedicated professional athletes.

Research continuously highlights that in the same sport, men consistently earn significantly more than women. For instance, a 2022 report in the UK showed that the gender pay gap in professional sports can be as high as 86%, with women earning a fraction of their male counterparts' salaries for the same effort, skills, and dedication. This is not fair for our women. 

Why does this gap persist? Often, it's a combination of historical bias, media coverage disparities, and unequal sponsorship opportunities. The difference in exposure and investment is stark, leading to a vicious cycle where women in sports receive less attention and, less financial support.

Imagine a world where female athletes do not have to stress about their next bill, where they are cherished, celebrated, and supported justly for their dedication to their sport. Closing the gender pay gap isn't just a step towards equality, it's an essential measure for the future of sports.

We need solutions. By urging sports organisations  and governing bodies to enforce equal pay policies, increase investment in women's sports, and ensure fair media coverage, we can begin to create a level playing field for all athletes.
