Clean Up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch/Ocean

Leitchfield, KY, United States
Created August 16, 2010

The Issue

We the undersigned do firmly and humbly offer you an idea for creating jobs in America cleaning the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.  This would allow us to  produce much needed jobs, improve the health of the Pacific Ocean and the planet at the same time.

The Pacific Ocean, now known as the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" is in dire need of cleaning, and America is in dire need of new jobs.  The Garbage Patch is roughly the size of Texas, and contains millions of tons of trash.  Everything from shoes, toothbrushes, plastic bottles, bags, toys, wrappers,  items too numerous to list are swirling around in our oceans right now.  You could pay people to not only go out and clean the Pacific Ocean but to sort though it once they get it out of there and place it in recycle bins.  There is documented research that shows that there are six pounds of plastic for every pound of plankton. Not only would this combat the millions of tons of trash floating around in our ocean but it would  allow Americans to be environmental leaders.  We could be the change we wish to see in the world, maybe if we created such jobs other countries would follow suit and there would be a global movement of jobs created to clean environmental disasters like the Pacific Ocean.

Thank you for your time and we hope that you take this into consideration and create jobs to not only help the people whom want to work be able to but to clean the mess in the Pacific Ocean a little at a time

Kiona TatePetition StarterI personally for a long time bought into I am just one, I can't do anything to change the world.. Than one day I had a great awakening and realized that if everyone felt that way nothing would get done, there would have been no Martian Luther King JR, Mother Teresa, Ghuandi, or any of the other great people that have made great change. So even though I know I will never be a great leader nor do I want to I decided to do any and all I can to help to save the planet.
