Dear fellow Abbotsford residents,

This petition is in response to some local calls to have the trial of the traffic calming measures at the Nicholson/Mollison/Langridge Street intersection, Abbotsford, halted.  As local residents and business owners, we felt it very important to provide a space for supporters of the trial to add their names and let the City of Yarra know that there are residents who want to see the full 12-month trial completed, with evaluation, to make a proper assessment of how to enhance safety at this corner for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

This petition/support also recognises that:

• the impacts for pedestrians are really encouraging and positive, particularly at the Langridge Street crosswalk and the crossing at Mollison where pedestrians are no longer threatened by drivers turning right from Nicholson. Having seen so many 'close calls' at this intersection, we are grateful for this improvement.
• there is also clearly a reduction in 'close calls' between turning traffic at the intersections and cyclists, though the U-turning of some drivers further north/south in Nicholson is a concern. The solution to that issue is not to remove the traffic calming (but possibly to extend it...?) 
• drivers are barely impacted by these measures. People are still able to move about very freely in the area and are able to do so more safely when on foot or on bike.
• Nicholson Street is not and should never be a 'traffic sewer'. It, like surrounding streets, is a residential street and home to hundreds of residents who are tired of dodging rat running drivers. This street carries a lot more pedestrian and bike traffic than vehicle traffic and these mobilities need to be given priority over cars. 

We would like this petition to be presented to Councillors in the December Council Meeting as a counter-petition to those signing to have traffic calming removed.
