Petition to retain and rebuild the hoists at King Harbor in Redondo Beach, California.

Petition to retain and rebuild the hoists at King Harbor in Redondo Beach, California.
The Issue
The City of Redondo Beach is determining whether King Harbor should exclusively use a boat ramp or should preserve the existing hoists as an alternative means to launch boats and bring them ashore. The City staff has determined that if ramps are built, they would dismantle and no longer use the hoists. By no longer having the hoists available, the elderly and the physically challenged will be without means to have access to a boat launch at King Harbor. The use of the ramp, without having accessible hoists as well, would violate the rights of those who do not have the physical capacity to endure the rigors that a ramp necessitates. This petition to the City of Redondo Beach and to the honorable City Council, respectfully requests that the hoists remain operational at King Harbor so that the rights of the physically challenged are protected. Cost may be defrayed as they are now: with a reduced rate for residents of Redondo Beach and a greater rate for nonresidents.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to protect the physically challenged and the elderly by retaining the hoists at Redondo Beach King Harbor.
