The City of Novato has devised a survey to get feedback on the options for the solar carport. The results of this survey will likely be used by the Council to make a decision on this structure. The survey will be open to all Novato residents until May 22. There will be an info meeting held next week on Wednesday, May 11 at 6 p.m at the Hamilton Community Center if you need more information before you fill it out. I would like to point out that the renderings for mitigation are not very accurate. If you look at the base of the trees, they have been shortened and filled in with leaves. The actual tree bases are higher and the carport is visible under that base. Also, the landscaping mitigation only affects the view directly across from the street and does not address the view from a side angle which is the most visible angle by street and pedestrian traffic. Please make sure to complete the survey as soon as you are able. My personal view is that they should locate the carport at where it was publicly noticed at the upper lot of the Hamilton Pool. If this choice is selected and voted on by the Council. It will need to be completely re-vetted again as the land was part of transfer that will make it available to a developer. We were told of this by Interim City Manager, Cathy Capriola at the last meeting. Remember, this is not an issue regarding our support of solar. This is an issue of improper public notification, a decision by city staff not to notify residents within 600 feet, and a disregard of the community design standards of Hamilton and Novato.
