A "solar carport" is under construction at South Hamilton Park and the Hamilton community does not feel that adequate notification and public review of the design was done.  We request that construction be stopped until a more suitable location on City property can be determined.

The solar carport was described as providing power for the Hamilton pool.  Many Hamilton residents hearing that solar was being added to the pool assumed that the solar carport would be placed in the pool's parking lot adjacent to the pool.  Instead, the solar carport was placed in the South Hamilton Park below the pool, quite a distance from the pool.

We object to the size, the visual impact to the neighbors, the materials and the design.  The structure is made with materials that are not in keeping with the neighboring park, homes or commercial developments.

We have been told that because it was an "accessory", it did not have to go through design review.  This is a major structure that definitely should have gone through design review or a public workshop.  Story poles should have been placed to show the large scale of this project.

We have not determined which residents were given notification.  Notice was also given through a one-time post on the Hamilton Forum e-group that only informs subscribers to the Forum.  It is not a completely public forum as users must be approved to participate.

We respectfully ask that construction be stopped and a community meeting be set up to move this solar carport for use at a more suitable City location, perhaps at the City's corporation yard.  Any solar project for Hamilton pool located in our high-density, multi-use neighborhood needs to be vetted more thoroughly with the stakeholders in the Hamilton community.
