Stop Edinburgh Education Cuts!

Stop Edinburgh Education Cuts!

On the 20th of February, the City of Edinburgh Council approved budget cuts that will have a devastating impact on Edinburgh's education system. These included:
*Cuts to Nursery Teachers
*Cuts to Devolved School Management (money for everything from staffing to books)
*Cuts to Quality Improvement Officers (limiting support available to Headteachers and curriculum advise)
*Cuts to Instrumental Music Provision
Research shows that high quality early years provision, led by highly qualified staff such as teachers and headteachers, results in greater developmental, social and educational progress for our children. All of these cuts will hit the poorest students hardest. This not a done deal. We must continue to resist.
This week, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance in the Scottish Government, Kate Forbes, announced an extra £95 million towards local government. Several million will go to the City of Edinburgh Council. This money could cancel the proposed education cuts.
