The road leading up to Parkdale public school (poplar) currently has only one sidewalk which is often overcrowded as Parkdale is a walking school. Many families come from the opposite direction and have been walking along the side of the road where there is no sidewalk, or choosing to do so in order to avoid the overcrowded sidewalk during a pandemic.

Those of us that have not been using the sidewalk have been having difficulties with the people living in the houses on this side of the road. Going as far as putting up fences and signs (which the city has made them take down due to it being city property along the side of the road). The latest difficulties have been with the school telling us we are not aloud to walk on the side of the road due to it being private property (confirmed with the city that it is not private property). The principle is standing on the corner telling families they have to cross to the overcrowded sidewalk, and posting on social media the same misinformation.

We mentioned that there should be a sidewalk on both sides as it leads to a school, and a second sidewalk would provide more safety for children, and allow families to avoid the overcrowding. After many families, and even the homeowners agreed to this proposal we decided to make it happen! Now all we need is your help to get the city to put in a second sidewalk on poplar for the children walking to school (almost all walk)!
