Induct Armand “Bep” Guidolin on the Sports Wall of Fame in Thorold
The Issue
Armand "Bep" Guidolin is a successful Italian Canadian NHL hockey player from the 1940s - 1960s. He played on the Boston Bruins, Detroit Redwings, and Chicago Blackhawks and also coached many teams throughout his career. Guidolin was born in Thorold, Ontario on December 9th, 1925. You'd think that with such success he would be on the Thorold Wall of Fame, but he has yet to be inducted.
Guidolin was the youngest player to skate in the NHL at just 16 years old and had a very successful hockey career. He made his debut with the Boston Bruins on November 12th, 1942. He played nine seasons in the NHL, scoring 107 goals, 171 assists in 519 games with Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. He then retired from the NHL in 1961 and moved onto a coaching career.
He began coaching the Belleville McFarlands who won the 1957-1958 Allan Cup Final and the World Championship in 1959. In 1965 he began coaching the Oshawa Generals where the Hockey Hall of Fame player Bobby Orr played. The Generals won the 1965-1966 Memorial Cup Final vs the Edmonton Oil Kings. Guidolin then went on to coaching the London Knights, Boston Bruins and the Kansas City Scouts, the Edmonton Oilers (World Hockey Association), the Boston Braves and the Philadelphia Firebirds of the American.
Despite his successful career in Hockey, Guidolin has yet to be put on the City of Thorold Sports Wall of Fame.
Bep Guidolin passed away on November 24th, 2008 at the age of 82 (NHL, 2008). We must help his legend live on and get his name on the Thorold Wall of Fame! We should be proud that a legend like Bep Guidolin was born in Thorold. Please sign the petition if you support this cause.
