Breakfast and After School Club - Christ the Kind, Newton Heath

We have had a concerning development at Christ the King Primary, Newton Heath. The School and Board of Governors have made a decision to close the Breakfast and After School clubs. Although we have raised concern with both the School and Board of Governors we feel that we have not been listened to and have been mostly ignored. Sadly there has been no dialogue or connection regarding the impact on families, parents, or pupils, nor have we had any consultation or consideration regarding the closure.

Can you take a moment to sign a petition against this closure?

Many families that will be impacted by this closure are keyworkers. There is a very limited additional childcare provision in the area, and what is available is double, sometimes triple the current cost. In addition many families are currently furloughed or working from home, which means that when normality returns, post-Covid, they will struggle like we will be struggling.

The staff at the clubs are amazing, and assist with maintaining our children's mental wellbeing at such a difficult time. Many a child will struggle with changing clubs, or even not having clubs at all.

Finally in the middle of a pandemic is not the time to put more strain on keyworkers, families and communities. This is not the time for closures of vital services, however small they are.

Outcome

If we win, we hope to keep the clubs open and functioning. This will support the families using the service, and the wider community when normality resumes. If we lose then the strain of locating child care in the middle of a pandemic becomes real, and many of us will have to stop working or find alternative work. This is not a realistic outcome.
