Child Safety on Dalry Roads
Child Safety on Dalry Roads
The Issue
As concerned residents of Dalry, we are deeply worried about the safety of children. The proposal to relocate the Lollipop Lady from Roche Way to Vennal Street puts their lives at risk.
The crossing patrol is on the busiest section of the busiest road in the town. There is significantly less traffic on Vennal Street, where the crossing patrol is being moved to. A pedestrian crossing in Vennal Street would be a safer option, keeping the crossing patrol on Roche Way.
The proposal is that children will use the pedestrian crossing located at the junction at the end of the road (50 metres from the crossing patrol). For many this will mean a sizeable detour.
The view of the pedestrian crossing for vehicles turning into Roche Way is obscured by buidings and trees on both sides. The distance to the pedestrian crossing will not give drivers much reaction time if a child steps into the road.
Since the school opened, nearly 50 years ago, it's been considered there is a need for both a crossing patrol and a pedestrian crossing on this road.
We must prioritize child safety over budget cuts or administrative decisions. We urge North Ayrshire Council not only consider this plea but also remember that each decision made affects real people - especially our young ones who depend on us for their safety and well-being.
Please sign this petition and urge North Ayrshire Council to maintain the school crossing patrol on this busy road. Your signature can make a difference and help keep our children safe.
