Cease Current and Future Cuts to Special Education in Chicago Public Schools

The Issue

We petition Chicago Public Schools and Chicago Board of Education to stop current and future cuts to special education in public schools and restore at least 95% of special education positions lost during cuts in August and October.

It is wrong to take money away from vital services for students with disabilities. Without teachers and staff, students will have a difficult time not only excelling in school, but also finding future employment and independent living as adults.

The Department of Labor reports a 10.4% unemployment rate among people with people with disabilities. If CPS continues to cut special education positions, then they will also continue to cut the dreams and aspirations of students with disabilities striving to live independently, work for a living, and becoming respectable citizens in their community.
