Bring Mr Channing Tatum to Adelaide #DyslexiaSA

The issue

Dyslexia remains poorly understood both in our education and general community despite it affecting up to 20% of people. ( Yale)  Most students with dyslexia underachieve at school due to lack of screening, awareness, and lack of exposure to systematic synthetic phonics.

Dyslexia is a difficulty with reading, writing and spelling. Students with dyslexia often have low self esteems due to their struggles , and consequently suffer high rates of anxiety, depression ,early school dropout and consequent limited life opportunities.

Due to lack of screening in SA, most students never get identified as having dyslexia and simply believe that they are stupid.

On the flip side, there are many strengths that are common among people with dyslexia such as thinking outside the box, and our community simply  cannot afford for these people not to be successful. Think of Richard Branson, Keira Knightley, Kerry Packer,  Steven Spielberg, Jessica Watson and Jennifer Aniston.

Successful dyslexics have a tremendous role to play in demystifying dyslexia and raising the understanding of dyslexia. Channing Tatum is hugely popular in SA and his quotes about his own dyslexia have created record shares on our Facebook page.( Dyslexia Support South Australia)

Eg "The system is broken. If we can streamline a multibillion-dollar company, we should be able to help kids who struggle the way I did."

A visit from Channing Tatum to South Australia would inspire our Universities, Politicians, Education Leaders and Schools to get serious about dyslexia.

Its time to stop the unnecessary underachievement and school misery.
