Changing NBCHS dress code

Changing NBCHS dress code
The Issue
North Battleford Comprehensive Highschool has an unfair and in many cases, sexist dress code. Many of the students at NBCHS have been affected by this. These targeted policies make many female students feel oversexualized in a place where all they want is comfort and respect. With these new rules I hope to create a culture at school that is more focused on learning, and less on the attire and bodies of students.
The current dress code allows the staff to ask students to change if any of the following applies to their clothing:
Any exposure of the trunk of the body (front, sides, back, belly).
Visible undergarments.
Pictures or words on clothing that are indecent or disrespectful to others.
Bandanas must not be worn on school property. They are considered gang symbols and are used by gangs for identification.
Hoods must not be worn inside the school building. Staff must be able to see a student's face for identification purposes. Students must wear appropriate footwear and clothing for indoor activities and physical education.
A few of these rules are understandable and important to keep our school a safe environment. There are a few rules that feel unnecessary and with slight adjustments, can be fixed and improved upon. With these changes I am hoping to make the school a more comfortable and safe place to be.
This is what I am proposing as the new dress code:
Staff will be allowed to ask students to change if any of the following applies to their clothing:
Visible undergarments (not including bra straps or backs of a bra)
Pictures or words on clothing that are indecent or disrespectful to others.
Bandanas.
Hoods. staff must be able to see a student's face for identification purposes.
(staff must talk to the student apart from other students and staff should not bring up a students body type)
The rule about having to wear footwear and clothing appropriate for physical education should not apply in the dress code as students are told in Phys.ED to bring a change of clothes and appropriate footwear.
**The rule about exposure to the trunk of a person's body was taken out of the proposed updated rules. I feel that having a rule against showing undergarments makes the rule of no exposure to trunk unnecessary.
Hopefully with many signatures we can start the process of changing some of these rules.
