Change Uttrakhand's name to Devbhoomi

The Issue

Uttarakhand is also known as the land of gods. It has been the abode of gods since time unknown. Uttarakhand's previous name was Uttaranchal. the majority of the people agree and favour the former name Uttaranchal. There have been sporadic events to change the name of the state. Uttara means north in Sanskrit and Khand means land. There are many northern States in India sharing the Himalayan range. But what makes our state more, than just the northern land is its enriched culture, history, geography and heritage. The power rests with the Parliament to alter the name of any state as prescribed in the constitution of India. We beseech the Government to take the necessary action regarding this. Moreover, it sounds better than the present-day name.

Let's dive into our argument for eg – Tamil Nadu the state name deduces the land of Tamil-speaking people. Could we have named our land that but Garhwali and Kumaoni both are not recognised as languages? Same for Kerala- which derives its name from Malayalam (Kera – “coconut tree”) and (Alam – “land”), thus “land of coconuts”. Punjab-Punj means five and Aab means river. Himachal Pradesh derives its name from “Him” – ice/snow and “Alaya” – a home that is the “home of snow”. Uttar Pradesh- “northern province”. In conclusion, every state name depicts either its regionality, identity or speciality. Uttarakhand, Himachal, J&K and a few others, all are northern lands. So just calling Uttarakhand the northern land would not justify the land which has so much to offer. But the root lies in its heritage and history enriched with epics and shrines which the devotees from all over the globe visit. So naming the Bhoomi (land)  which paints its image (deity) sounds more relevant, doesn’t it?
