Children who struggle in school often must show two years of struggling and being behind before being recommended for testing. They are then put on a wait list that on average takes one year of waiting before getting tested. This leads to the child often being 3 years behind their peers. The suggestion here is to allow parents to be refunded for costs of getting testing done privately (the cost is $2,500 to $3,000). This should allow for the waiting list to be smaller and thus shorter wait times for individual on the list. Parents are currently allowed to get private testing done but the high cost out of pocket often stops them from doing so and leading to more kids on the waiting list and in turn creating longer wait times for all.
