How is it fair to some students that they cannot have the ability to participate in school activities such as spirit days if they do not have “approved spirit clothes”?

How is it fair to students who cannot afford to pay for specific clothes on top of uniform that go for over $100 dollars for only a few pieces of uniform garments? The school spirit rules used to be repping the argonaut colours (blue and green) and before this change in code was implemented I, as a student, saw many more people participating in spirit days than I do now. 

There is no way whoever authorized this can think this is truly fair for everybody, especially for a school that is based off values including community and accessibility for every student to be involved in things. To tell a student they cannot participate unless they buy specific spirit wear is essentially saying they cannot participate unless they pay. 

I speak on behalf of other students when I say not everyone has means to spend money on clothing items that they cannot even wear on non-spirit days. I would like to understand exactly how that is fair and not excluding many many students who can’t afford extra clothing?

On top of insane uniform prices, taking away the freedom of the students rights to show their pride by wearing the school colours backs people into a corner of either paying extra money to show said pride, or not participating at all; which is not fair, and will never be fair.

A school that’s pride and spirit is determined by if a student can afford a specific piece of clothing and aren’t allowed to participate otherwise is a school with no pride at all.

By changing this policy, we can ensure that no child feels excluded because of financial constraints. Let’s work together to encourage an environment where every student feels cherished and accepted, bolstering school pride while recognizing diverse economic backgrounds.

I urge the school to adapt the spirit wear policy to be more inclusive and compassionate for those who are less fortunate.
