Change Rules for Lead Passengers on Booked Holidays

Change Rules for Lead Passengers on Booked Holidays
The Issue
This is personal to me because this week, my mum was due to fly to Ibiza with her friend. The holiday was booked a year ago, a trip my mum looked forward to, and had already paid her share of. Not being very tech-savvy with boarding passes and such, she trusted her friend to be the lead passenger, as they had done on two previous holidays. Unfortunately, a small fallout occurred between them, but they both still planned to travel abroad. To our shock, 48 hours before the holiday, when my mum went to check in, she discovered that her name had been removed from the booking. Her friend, as the lead passenger, had full control to make such drastic changes, leaving my mum utterly devastated.
Currently, the rules around booked holidays are unfair, allowing the lead passenger to make unilateral decisions that affect all parties involved in the booking. This includes canceling the entire holiday or changing passengers' names without any requirement for obtaining consent from other participants. This situation exposes a loophole where a lead passenger can misuse their position and disrupt others' holiday plans without consideration.
There needs to be a revision of these regulations to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all named passengers within a booking. Implementing a requirement for mutual consent before significant changes can be made would protect all parties. Additionally, there should be an option for co-lead passengers, so that one doesn't hold all the authority, thus preventing misuse of power.
Statistics from travel surveys show that over 70% of group travelers rely on one person to manage bookings due to convenience. However, with great responsibility comes great potential for abuse if not checked. It's time we demand fair practices that protect every traveler’s investment and peace of mind.
Sign this petition to urge holiday booking companies and regulatory agencies to change these rules, ensuring a lead passenger cannot unilaterally cancel or modify a booking without the consent of all parties involved. Protect your holiday and your right to travel by supporting this cause.
