NSCC Return To Normal Hours
The Issue
On behalf of 2nd year NSCC Heavy Duty Truck and Transport students , we cannot understand why the trades programs are not back in normal hours as primary to grade twelve is back full time. Currently in our schooling we are in the shop for 9 hours a week, the rest being online. We are split into two groups of 8, for 4.5 hours two days a week. In context last year we started every day at 7am , 3 hours of shop on everyday except Tuesday, which was 4. After shop we would go to a classroom and do our bookwork and tests as a class.
It was recently brought to our attention that the industry doesnt know our situation and thinks we are in school the same as usual, this will effect us in the class to get a job out of school as who would want to hire a trades person whos majority of learning was online.
Not only are we only in the shop for only 9 hours a week, the school has upped tuition and our only break for money was not paying for a $25 dollar parking pass.
In summary we are missing out on a vast majority of learning and experience not being in school full time hours. I mean if were sending 6 year old kids, why are we not sending a school full of adults?
