Current World Health Organisation, NHS & UK Government recommendation is that babies are not introduced to solid foods until they are around 6 months of age. 

This is for some particularly important reasons; to reduce the risk of choking - as babies should be sitting independently and able to support their own head; and also to help reduce the risk of introducing allergies if some foods are introduced too early as the GI tract is still maturing.

Unfortunately some manufacturers of baby food are clearly advertising their product as suitable from 4 months of age. This is clearly against current recommendation and could be confusing to new parents/care givers.

There is also a link between childhood obesity and the introduction of solid foods before the recommended age of 6 months. The number of school age children in the UK who are overweight or obese is at an all time high.
