The Issue

Our family's experience with the eviction process in Connecticut has been incredibly challenging and unjust. We are a family of three, including our son who is autistic, and we understand the importance of stability and a calm environment for his well-being. Despite our best efforts to ensure a smooth transition when moving out of our rental unit, we have been left with an unfair eviction mark on our record.

Our son, who struggles with social anxiety and cannot handle loud noises, required us to find accommodation that suited his specific needs. When we relocated, we made sure to leave our previous apartment in pristine condition. We left without incident, complied with all formalities, and were up to date with every payment owed to our landlord.

Despite doing everything right, the eviction remains on our rental history and credit report, affecting our ability to secure future housing. It is unfair that tenants who have not violated any lease agreements or disrupted the peace should suffer from this outdated process.

The current eviction protocol in Connecticut does not account for situations where tenants vacate voluntarily and responsibly. This has to change. Tenants who leave willingly, maintain the property in excellent condition, and are up to date with rent and other payments, should not have an eviction on their record.

We urge the lawmakers in Connecticut to revise the eviction policies and processes to reflect a fair and just system. By removing the stigma of eviction from responsible tenants' records, families like ours can have a fair chance at securing future rental opportunities. Connecticut should set a precedent for fairness and transparency in tenant rights.

Please sign this petition to advocate for a change in Connecticut's eviction policies, ensuring they are just, fair, and do not penalize individuals who leave premises responsibly. Together, we can make a difference for families who follow the rules and deserve a fair chance at housing security.
