Change dc metro station name from "Hyattsville Crossing" back to "Prince George's Plaza"

Change dc metro station name from "Hyattsville Crossing" back to "Prince George's Plaza"
The Issue
So in late 2022, WMATA (Washington Metro) approved a request by the city of Hyattsville to rename the PG Plaza station on the Green and Yellow Lines to Hyattsville Crossing despite giving out surveys to riders in the DMV area and the vast majority of them opposing the request. This was because of a conspiracy theory the WMATA board and staff of riders only opposing it because of them being "emotionally attached" to names. This was said but the survey answers from people were never released publicly at least from my knowledge to prove that theory.
The change from Prince George's Plaza to Hyattsville Crossing is the one that made absolutely no sense whatsoever at least to me. And while I can't speak for anyone else other than myself, I can say that this is NOT being said by me because of nostalgia or being emotionally connected to the community there and resisting change or anything of that nature. Down below you will see multiple reasons why this particular name change did not sit well with me (and I would assume a lot of DMV area residents)
- This Station was originally named after the Mall. This didn't make any sense at all because is because while the mall isn't called Prince George's Plaza anymore, it still had Prince George's in its name
- Prince George's is the name of the County and the station is located in a Plaza like area. Here in America, the word Plaza is defined as "a public square, marketplace or open space in a built up area, which is exactly what this station is situated in physically with all those businesses and buildings right next to the station like Dunkin' Donuts, Bob's Discount Furniture, Staples, Giant Food, etc literally in the shape of a square and in a built-up area while Hyattsville Crossing literally does not exist (at least not that I know of).
- It is also important to note that there is already a perfectly good station with the word "Hyattsville" in it right next door. This is off topic but I must mention that obviously West Hyattsville is a great name for the station next door going towards DC and Virginia because that station does serve specifically the western portion of Hyattsville if you think about it geographically.
- The term Hyattsville Crossing also goes over Metro's 19 character station name limit.
- Policies for station naming involves: Jurisdictions are to complete outreach in their communities to determine potential station names. Names are then formally submitted to the WMATA staff to conduct required regional research of the potential names, names should identify the station locations by geographical features or centers of activity, provided that landmarks are within one half mile of the station (walking distance), names should be distinctive and evoke imagery in the mind of the patron; and each station name should be no longer than 19 characters (including spaces and punctuation), except for transfer station names, which should be no longer than 13 characters. the name Prince George's Plaza met ALL of these requirements.
To Summarize, metro means everything to me and it always will while the intentions are in the right place, the decision to approve this particular name change with not much thought in thinking about both sides of the story of developers and riders rather than automatically go with the local government and developers and brush off riders as "resistance of change" or "emotionally connected beliefs" simply because a study at Harvard suggested it without showing the evidence of that theory being accurate to participants publicly in board meetings such written comments from participants did not make any sense and it was disheartening to go against the survey results despite giving riders the chance to participate in them. It kind of shows a conflict of interest to a certain degree as well automatically granting developers requests without any real through discussions. If possible, please sign this petition to hopefully show support in my effort into trying to get it renamed back. Anywhere between 500-1,000 signatures would be a good goal to start with so please sign if you can. Thanks.
