” ~~~Devastating News~~~
Well guys it’s official – CCACF were given our notice today. We were unsuccessful in our attempt to stay on, obviously we are devastated. Where do we go from here?, well we are trying to find another place to rent. Our work is too important to fall over.
As an impound facility agent we hoped we had made a difference to not only the strays but to their owners by helping them get them home whether it was finding them or assisting them by raising the much needed funds to get them home.
Since July 16, our proven history:
Impound - Return to owner rate:
1st July, 2016 to 30th June, 2017 93.04% - 58 Dogs was all we couldn’t get home out of 862 Animals – 43 of those were unchipped.
1st July, 2017 to 30th June, 2018 93.06% - 46 Dogs was all we couldn’t get home out of 720 Animals – 34 of those were unchipped.
1st July, 2018 to 30th June, 2019 94.93% (dogs) 74.35% (cats) – 37 Dogs / 10 Cats was all we couldn’t get home out of 769 Animals – 31 of those were unchipped.
1st July, 2019 to 30th June, 2020 97.96% (dogs) 60.00% (cats) – 11 Dogs / 4 Cats was all we couldn’t get home out of 597 Animals – 13 of those were unchipped.
1st July, 2020 to 30th June, 2021 98.62% (dogs) 66.66% (cats) – 6 Dogs / 5 Cats was all we couldn’t get home out of 596 Animals – 10 of those were unchipped whilst 1 was, the mc owner told us to euthanise the cat. We did not!
In our Rescue Side – We saved countless animals off euthanasia lists and pound lists. We assisted the Greyhound trainers who had finished racing their dogs, we assisted other rescues who were overloaded, left in the lurch by foster carers or on joint missions in hoarding cases. We assisted RSPCA and AWL with lightening their loads in their facilities, we took animals from vets who owners surrendered them for euthanasia, we helped the homeless with support for their animals whilst they were in care, we helped Real Estates with abandoned animals left behind when no one else would, we assisted the police where people had died and no one would take the animals, we helped rangers with solutions when the owners couldn’t and we helped the general public day in day out with surrenders, fundraisers, even repairing fences to help owners keep their animals in.
1st July, 2016 to 30th June, 2017 570 Animals were brought into our rescue side
1st July, 2017 to 30th June, 2018 463 Animals were brought into our rescue side
1st July, 2018 to 30th June, 2019 677 Animals were brought into our rescue side
1st July, 2019 to 30th June, 2020 847 Animals were brought into our rescue side
1st July, 2020 to 30th June, 2021 693 Animals were brought into our rescue side
We took on the animals that no one wanted whether they were sick, injured, abandoned, scared or even traumatised by their previous owners. We wanted to give them the life they deserved. Some of those animals were only with a short period of time whilst others were with us nearly a year. We didn’t place a time limit on their lives and we loved each and everyone of them as our own.
We sat with every single animal that gained their wings either due to orders or illness even if their owners refused. We kept everyone of their collars as a reminder as to why we must try harder everyday to educate, assist and speak for those without a voice.
We are immensely proud of our achievements and for the best part I think the community is too. Sure you will always get those that don’t like you or you cant please but every single person who has crossed our path have impacted our lives in such a way that we will miss being at Erina.
To all the rangers who we have worked with, you guys are amazing and I will miss everyone of you. The work they do is very much underappreciated by those who don’t understand the pure demands that are placed on them on a daily basis. For such a big LGA (Local Government Area), they do their best with what they have and each of those rangers have called on me so many times to help someone in need not because they have to but because they wanted me to help the person.
To my fellow staff members, these guys are my family and I love each and everyone of them like my children. Sure I could slap them some days but everyone of them has my full admiration. The love and care they have for animals is second to none and I couldn’t have picked a better team if I tried. I am deeply saddened that I have failed them in our bid to save their jobs and for that I am deeply sorry.
We know our work is important so we will be trying to find somewhere else to go to continue what we have been doing all these years. For me I have been part of the Central Coast now for nearly 7.5 years first at Charmhaven and then at Erina. I have made some amazing friendships which I will be forever grateful.
Countless animals die every day and they don’t need to, we need to be there for as many of these animals but we cant do it alone especially now.
If we don’t manage to find somewhere to go, we are hoping to set up a foster care based rescue to continue what we are passionate about until we find another building or land to go to. We are hoping to reach out to you guys to please continue to support us and if you haven’t already, please please please sign up as a rescue warrior so we know what budgets we have to rent a place, wages and running costs.
For as little as $5.00 per week (less than a cup of coffee these days), it may just help us get into another place quicker.
To be a rescue warrior – please email us at ccanimalcarefacility@gmail.com and we can get you setup for as little as $5.00 per week (which is tax deductible)
To be a foster carer – please email us at gosfordpound@gmail.com
Our focus is to get these remaining dogs into homes and to get setup as quickly as possible and continue to help those in need. Cowra Pound has called late last night asking for urgent assistance.
So please share our posts, sign up as a warrior if your able to or even think about becoming a foster carer. Please note, we don’t often get small breed dogs, quite often it’s the big dogs that need homes the most same as cats.
Thank you so much for your support over the years, we have been truly blessed by having such wonderful supporters. Obviously the news has hit us all hard so we are going to take a few days to ourselves.
Apparently we did well in all areas except a breach in social media through the CCACF instagram page run by a volunteer and our rehoming procedure, was lacking in more details to our competitors. Socares is the successful tenderer.
We offer Socares our congratulations and we wish them all the best.
Much love to you all
Dee, Don, Kim, Jen, Katelyn, Kasia and Locky“
