Cease Production of the Boeing 737 MAX

The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about air safety, I have been troubled by the issues surrounding the Boeing 737 MAX family. The two fatal crashes involving this model within five months in 2018 and 2019, as well as the door plug blowout which claimed a total of 346 lives in the first 2 crashes, were devastating events that should never be repeated (source: National Transportation Safety Board). These incidents raised serious questions about the aircraft's design and safety protocols.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded all Boeing 737 MAX planes worldwide for nearly two years following these accidents. Despite modifications to its software system and subsequent approval from FAA to return to service in November 2020, there are still lingering concerns among many aviation experts and the general public regarding its safety.

Therefore, we call on Boeing to cease production of all civilian Boeing 737 MAX family of aircraft. Instead, we urge them to focus their resources on existing commercial airplane programs Boeing owns such as the 787 Dreamliner and the 777X that are more capable of prioritizing passenger safety above all else. Especially for the commercial airline market This will not only restore public confidence in their brand but also ensure that such tragic accidents do not occur again.

The Boeing 737 AEW&C is a 737-700IGW roughly similar to the 737-700ER. This is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) version of the 737NG. Australia was the first customer (as Project Wedgetail), followed by Turkey, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The P-8 is a 737-800ERX ("Extended Range") that was selected by the US Navy on June 14, 2004, to replace the Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft. The P-8 is unique in that it has 767-400ER-style raked wingtips instead of the blended winglets available on 737NG variants. The P-8 is designated 737-800A by Boeing.

The Boeing Converted Freighter program (BCF), or the 737-800BCF program, was launched by Boeing in 2016. It converts older 737-800 passenger jets to dedicated freighters. The first 737-800BCF was delivered in 2018 to GECAS, which is leased to West Atlantic. Boeing has signed an agreement with Chinese YTO Cargo Airlines to provide the airline with 737-800BCFs pending a planned program launch.

In June 2008, All Nippon Airways took delivery of the first 767-300BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter), a modified passenger-to-freighter model. The conversion work was performed in Singapore by ST Aerospace Services, the first supplier to offer a 767-300BCF program, and involved the addition of a main deck cargo door, strengthened main deck floor, and additional freight monitoring and safety equipment.

Israel Aerospace Industries offers a passenger-to-freighter conversion program called the 767-300BDSF (BEDEK Special Freighter). Wagner Aeronautical also offers a passenger-to-freighter conversion program for 767-300 series aircraft.

We believe that every life is precious and no one should ever have to question their safety when boarding an airplane. Please sign this petition if you agree with Boeing and Southwest’s call for safer skies through improved aircraft design.
