CCEA don't downgrade us - Use Teacher predicted grades! #TrustOurTeachers

The Issue

Trust our teachers. Students in Northern Ireland should be given the grades their teachers predicted for them - not those which CCEA used algorithms to create. We believe in the professionalism of teachers in Northern Ireland to accurately predict grades for their students.

The model used in Scotland disproportionately affected students from socially deprived areas and we should not risk similar inequality in Northern Ireland. We believe Minister Peter Weir and CCEA Chief Executive Justin Edwards should give students the same opportunities as our counterparts in Scotland given the recent government U-turn.

Students this year have faced unprecedented educational circumstances. While we acknowledge that there are 10% more A/A* grades under predictions (Source: CCEA) we believe it is unfair to use historic school performance as a model to regulate these predictions and that this (as seen in Scotland) may disproportionately negatively impact students from socially deprived areas.

As a concerned group of students, the new Secondary Students' Union of Northern Ireland is launching this petition on the basis of equality and fairness on behalf of all those in Northern Ireland who's grades and futures may suffer. Our teachers are professionals and should be trusted as such. Our students are young people with futures, more than pieces of data and should be treated as such.
