'No Detriment' Policy for Cass Business School Assessments as of March 2020

'No Detriment' Policy for Cass Business School Assessments as of March 2020
The Issue
I am calling for Cass Business School to follow in the footsteps of other top UK universities, such as Exeter, Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester and others to implement a no-detriment / ‘safety net’ policy for all remaining assessments for both Undergraduates and Postgraduates.
The no-detriment policy means that whatever grade you have achieved up to this point, your grade is effectively floored at this level. I.e. if you are averaging 60 up to this point then you will be given the opportunity to better this average in upcoming exams but cannot achieve lower than your average grade. The minimum requirement is that you pass the module and if this is below your average mark then you achieve your average mark so far this year but if it is above then you can better your average mark this year. If you fail then a resit is still required. I believe this is the fairest way of ensuring that students grades are not impacted negatively in what are extremely difficult and disruptive times for students. Many students will be struggling to study in an environment that will not allow them to demonstrate their full potential, as well as being negatively impacted by mental or physical illness during this time as well or having to take care of family members. I believe the fairest decision Cass Business School can make is to follow the actions of other universities to ensure consistency amongst all universities. With other universities already making this move there is a potential for grade inflation against Cass and by adopting the same measures this will provide sufficient protection for students in what will be an incredibly difficult job market post graduation.
