Dear local residents and visitors of Carss Bush Park,

Some of you would have received a letter from Georges River Council regarding a Notice of proposed development No DA2024/0620 dated 19th February 2025.

Milestone Australia Pty Ltd (a town planner contracted by the council) has submitted the proposed development, stating:

Development Application for overarching approval for the temporary use of part of Carss Bush Park, including an area of public parkland at the southern end of Carss Bush Park along the foreshore of Carss Point Baths, as well as Carss Park Flats, for community, cultural, and corporate events, including the erection of associated overlay including temporary structures. A holistic approval for temporary events is sought for a period of five years and for up to 52 community events per calendar year.

Click to view details regarding this development application on the Georges River Council website.

This development in the form described in Milestone Australia Pty Ltd.’s application where events can be carried out every weekend and continuously over the next 5 years will have a severe impact on local residents and visitors of Carss Bush Park.

These include:

  • Inability to use Carss Bush Park (e.g for picnics, dog walking, recreation)
  • Excessive noise (allowed "from 6am to midnight, on any day" according to page 7 of this application's noise management plan)
  • Traffic jams from Carwar Avenue to Princess Highway
  • Indiscriminate parking along surrounding streets
  • Rubbish left along Carwar Avenue and surrounding areas
  • Damages to the grounds of Carss Bush Flats when it converts into a 2000 lot car park
  • Excessive dust arising from car parking use, creating air pollution
  • Denying the use of Carss Park Flats by organisations and sports clubs
  • Impact on wildlife in Carss Bush Park

Some of these proposed events are commercial events by the operator making profits at the expense of public recreation space and parkland and depriving our residents of the use of Carss Bush Park and Carss Park Flats. E.g The Water Lantern festival hosted on March 8/9th has tickets priced at ~$50, and a previous festival charged $10 for parking on the grass (meaning congestion will spill onto our streets).

A few events per year may be fine, but granting approval to host every weekend is unacceptable.

The most important action is to EMAIL the council opposing this development (No DA2024/0620), highlighting your concerns. The submission deadline by the council is 23 April 2025 via mail@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au (you can also cc your relevant councillors and contact our State MP Chris Minns)

While this petition will show strength in numbers and is useful for raising awareness, it will only count as one submission. Therefore, we urge you to take 10 minutes out of your day to write your email.

Kind regards,

Peter Tan
