CARDIFF RENT STRIKE started this petition to Cardiff University

As a consequence of COVID - 19, university students have been studying and working remotely in their homes. Whilst students understand the need for this, we cannot fathom the idea of paying rent fees. How can one justify paying for accommodation which most students are not even staying in. Furthermore, for those students who are staying in their accommodation, it is still a crippling struggle to get by. Many students have dropped out because they cannot cope with these economic constraints. For these reasons we demand for reduced rent fees.

It is also salient that Cardiff university provides more clarity in relation to what they are planning to do to rectify the rent fee problem, and additionally they should clarify when and how students will return. University is supposed to provide an environment in which students feel accounted for and cared about. Failing to keep them updated will only impinge their work and mental health. If Cardiff university continues to keep its students alienated, we the students will not be able to feel comfortable or satisfied with our university experience. Mental health issues will soar and students will struggle to work on their course to their fullest potential.

On a similar note the students at Cardiff feel strongly that the university needs to do more regarding mental health support; a respectable university supports its students and helps them to flourish. It is no secret that university comes with its own struggles and hardships, however, the university should be doing all it can to go above and beyond the status quo during this pandemic.

Listen to the students and consider their needs, as they are the future!!!
