The Issue
To the Management and Trustees of Madina Masjid Sheffield, United Kingdom
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
We, as members of the Sunni Muslim community worldwide, respectfully wish to express our concern regarding the planned appearance of Tahir-ul-Qadri at Madina Masjid Sheffield, SouthYorkshire, England. Tahir-ul-Qadri, a controversial figure known for views and positions that Sunni Muslims worldwide regard as problematic, is scheduled to deliver a speech at the masjid on 7 June 2026.
As followers of the traditional Ahle-Sunnat wal Jama‘at creed and methodology, particularly Maslak-e-A‘ala Hazrat رحمۃ اللہ علیہ, we believe that certain statements, teachings, and positions associated with Tahir-ul-Qadri have caused significant concern amongst Sunni Muslims. We fear that hosting speakers whose teachings are disputed may create confusion and division within the community, especially among younger attendees seeking authentic Islamic guidance.
Our intention is not to create hostility. We hold no personal animosity towards the person concerned. However, his views regarding the Sahaba Kiram, particularly Hazrat Ameer Mu’awiyah رضي الله عنه, cannot be justified or endorsed in any way. Rather, we urge the mosque leadership to carefully consider the responsibility entrusted to them in preserving unity upon sound Sunni scholarship and safeguarding the religious wellbeing of the congregation.
We respectfully request that the management:
1. Reconsider the invitation extended to Tahir-ul-Qadri.
2. Consult recognised and trusted Sunni scholars regarding this matter.
3. Prioritise speakers whose teachings are widely accepted within mainstream Ahle-Sunnat scholarship and who contribute positively to unity, clarity, and sound understanding in matters of faith.
We make this appeal sincerely, with adab and genuine concern for the masjid and the wider Muslim community.
May Allah guide us all towards what is correct and unite the Ummah upon truth, wisdom, and sincerity.
