The Issue
I'm currently a high school student in Alberta, anxiously preparing for the upcoming diploma exams this June. However, there's an issue that has been unfairly dividing students like me from those who took their courses last semester. As many of you are aware, a teacher strike disrupted our education last semester, leading to a situation where students were exempted from taking diplomas for certain subjects.
This policy discrepancy means that I, along with many of my peers who are scheduled to take multiple diplomas this semester, face an inequitable academic challenge. While striving for excellence is always important, the current situation leaves me, and others in my position, with a heavier burden as compared to those who had the fortune to complete their courses amidst the strike's impact.
In the interest of fairness and academic equality, I am calling upon the Alberta Education Ministry to reconsider the decision to hold diploma exams this June. Many students who are tasked with different expectations during unprecedented times should not face additional stress due to circumstances beyond their control.
Our education system must acknowledge the unique conditions this year has presented and adapt accordingly. By canceling the diploma exams scheduled for June, the education board can ensure that all students are granted an equal ground to perform, without being at a disadvantage due to the timing of the courses they took.
We are a generation that values resilience and adaptability, yet we deserve an education system that values fairness above rigid procedures. Please join me in urging the Alberta Education Ministry to cancel the June diploma exams and eliminate this barrier, ensuring a more equitable academic environment for all students across Alberta.
Sign this petition to advocate for fair academic policies and help create an education system that supports every student's potential equally.
