Subject: Request to Ban / Block Social Media websites, Pornographic & Online betting websites and content from School Networks, School Computer Devices, and Public Library networks…

We, the undersigned, concerned citizens of Canada, hereby write this petition to urgently draw your attention as our leaders to the growing problem of unrestricted access to social media platforms and pornographic content in spaces and educational devices meant for educational purposes. This issue, if left unaddressed, threatens to harm the moral, social, and academic development of our children and youth and, by extension, the future of our nation.

Background and Concerns: Children, pupils and students across Canada are increasingly getting exposed to undesirable online content through social media platforms and adult websites that are openly accessible via school networks, public library systems, and devices such as laptops and tablets provided by schools to pupils and students. This very dangerous exposure has led to numerous negative and unwanted consequences, including:

1.       Disruption in Academic Focus: Students & Pupils are spending valuable school hours on non-educational activities, neglecting their studies, and failing to meet academic expectations.

2.       Adoption of Harmful Behaviors: Exposure to inappropriate content and online influences has contributed to the proliferation of behaviors such as unwanted sexual acts among pupils & students, smoking, online betting, vaping, nudity, tattoos and other harmful habits among children and teenagers.

3.       Moral and Social Decline: Online Pornographic and inappropriate content online is exposing young minds to distorted ideas of relationships and sexuality, leading to unhealthy attitudes and behaviors.

4.       Poor Academic Performance: Constant distractions from social media and adult content are contributing to rapid declining academic results and classroom engagement.

5.       Threat to Present & Future Generations: If left unchecked, these issues are significantly impacting the moral and social fabric of our society, harming future generations of Canadian youth.

6.       Parental and Guardian Stress: Many parents and guardians are experiencing significant stress and emotional turmoil upon discovering the type of online content their children are being exposed to on school-provided laptops and tablets. This often leads to family conflicts, breakdowns in trust, and a sense of helplessness in protecting their children from harmful influences. The strain on family relationships further exacerbates the negative effects on children's development and well-being.

7.      Increasing loitering & homelessness. These un-educational sites that are freely and easily accessible on schools’ devices & Networks & Public are indirectly corrupting the minds of children, youths, students and young adults, which in turn makes them less interested in academics and school. This is turn is fueling the undesirable situation of unwanted loitering on streets, in public places, gardens & parks, on public transit and in malls.

Our Request: To address this urgent issue, we respectfully call upon the Government of Canada, All provincial Public Libraries boards, and all educational authorities in Canada to implement the following measures:

Ban Access to Social media and Pornographic Content: Restrict access to all social media platforms and adult content across networks and devices provided by public schools, libraries, and other educational institutions.

Strengthen Internet Security: Mandate that all devices (laptops, tablets, and computers) distributed to students and available in public libraries are equipped with secure and advanced content-blocking software.

Implement Monitoring Policies: Develop strict policies and technological solutions to monitor internet usage in schools and public libraries to ensure compliance with these restrictions.

Raise Awareness: Conduct campaigns to educate students, parents, and teachers on the harmful effects of unrestricted access to social media and pornography, and promote responsible use of technology.

Engage Stakeholders: Collaborate with parents, educators, and technology experts to create a safe and conducive learning environment for students.

Conclusion: The well-being and future of our children & youth are at stake. By taking decisive action to eliminate access to social media platforms and pornography in educational and public spaces, the Government of Canada can safeguard the moral, academic, and social development of students. This effort will ensure that our children grow up as responsible, educated, and well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute positively to society.

TAXPAYE'S NOTE; Since these schools, educational facilities & public libraries are supported by Canadian Taxpayer monies, we as taxpayers humbly ask that our tax dollars be put to much better use that promotes the greatly desired education & literacy, and not using taxpayer's money to promote online promiscuity, immorality, gambling, addiction, social, moral and mental decay.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Government of Canada and all relevant authorities, institutions (public & private), individual persons, families to act immediately and decisively.

Sincerely,
Godfrey Ssali, Tel: 416.728.9113, Email; ssalikg256@gmail.com

Kindly support this petition and join us in creating a better and safe online environment for our children, youths, pupils, students, families and Canada at large.
