Call on Syrian Security forces to immediately release lesbian blogger/American citizen Amina Araf!
The Issue
Amina Araf is an American-Syrian living in Damascus. Under the name Amina Abdallah, she writes the blog, A "Gay Girl in Damascus", a nation which criminalizes homosexuality. Throughout the Syrian unrest she has been a voice speaking out against the brutal Syrian government and its ongoing campaign against its citizens. Amina Araf was taken at gunpoint off the streets of Damascus Monday, June 6, 2011 by three armed men, in their twenties driving a vehicle with stickers related to the brutal Assad regime. We call upon the Syrian Security forces to immediately and unconditionally release Ms. Araf. We further call upon the United States State Department to file a formal protest with the Syrian government in Damascus and its embassy in Washington and to hold the brutally repressive Assad regime personally responsible for Ms Araf's safety.
