Call for Stronger Cannabis Regulations to Protect Ontario Communities

Call for Stronger Cannabis Regulations to Protect Ontario Communities
The Issue
I am calling for stronger regulations on cannabis access within our community because I have seen first-hand how it has affected those closest to me. It has disrupted their personal, academic, and work lives, and has become prevalent in schools and neighbourhoods. This widespread accessibility puts our youth and vulnerable populations at risk.
When signing, please include your occupation/profession/level of education in the ‘comments’ field so we can show the diversity of supporters to policymakers.
The legalization of cannabis was intended to create a controlled and safer environment, but instead, it has become alarmingly accessible to those who should not have it. Our community deserves to feel safe and secure from the unintended consequences of this legalization.
To address this issue, I propose several changes. First, raise the legal purchase age for cannabis, ensuring that young people are better protected from its early influence.
Second, we must control the distribution of cannabis more effectively. This includes prohibiting stores from operating near sensitive locations such as schools, libraries, parks, public spaces, religious spaces, homeless shelters, rehab centres, hospitals, police stations, and government buildings. These steps will provide layers of protection for our most vulnerable citizens and uphold the well-being of our community.
Implementing these measures is not only a matter of public safety but also essential for the healthy development of youth. It is crucial that we create an environment where they can grow without the influence of substances that could hinder their potential.
I urge community leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to recognize the repercussions of cannabis accessibility and take action to regulate more strictly and appropriately. Our collective responsibility is to protect our community, especially those at the greatest risk. Your support is vital in making this change possible.
Please sign this petition to advocate for stricter cannabis regulations and help safeguard the future of our community.
