Call for Resignation of Jonathan Davies MP from Chesterfield Borough Council
The Issue
People of Mid Derbyshire.
Many of us residing in Mid Derbyshire are dismayed that our MP, Jonathan Davies, who is already garnering a reputation for not getting back to constituents, is splitting his focus between his duties as our MP and his role as councillor on Chesterfield Borough Council.
We deserve better. We call on Jonathan to immediately resign his council seat and concentrate on being a full time MP, not a two job Charlie.
Chesterfield Borough Council is outside of our constituency and it demands time and energy that could be devoted to issues that directly affect us. By dedicating his time to a borough that is outside of his remit, Davies compromises his ability to adequately serve our constituency.
It's worth noting that an MP's role is demanding in its own right. According to research from the Institute for Government, MPs in the UK worked an average of 69 hours a week – a workload that leaves little room for the added responsibilities of being a councillor in a different constituency.
This is why we call for Jonathan Davies to resign his role as councillor on Chesterfield Borough Council and to redirect his focus back to the Mid Derbyshire, where it is crucially needed. By doing so, he can provide the undivided attention and commitment his role as MP for Mid Derbyshire requires.
For years, we have lived underrepresented. Now, it’s time for us to demand better.
