I, a dedicated member of the United Kingdom Thalassaemia Society for over 46 years, have grown increasingly disconcerted by the trajectory our current board of trustees is taking. The issues of poor governance and integrity by the trustees are now being widely discussed, causing major concerns within our member community.

According to the UKTS constitution, an Annual General Meeting (AGM) was scheduled on Saturday November 23 2024 and cancelled without explanation a few hours before. Sadly, this has not taken place which raises valid questions about the board's adherence to its own rules and the potentially negative impact this can have on our mission. This oversight risks undermining the trust and faith of our members.

Failure to demonstrate transparency and adhere to set policies not only undermines the foundation of our organisation but also jeopardises the future of right of patients and their relatives who depend on us.

Therefore, in light of the aforementioned concerns, I appeal to the general membership of UKTS to sign this petition so we can call for an emergency Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). Our hope is that this meeting can address these issues and pave the way for a more transparent, effective, and trustworthy governance.
