Call for a New Constitutional Convention

Call for a New Constitutional Convention
The Issue
Instead of a government of, by, and for the citizen we have created a political theater we can only access through an indifferent establishment of middlemen - federal politicians. It is our right to call for a convention and elect representatives (teams or individuals) by State to work on the proposition of government reformation - going over the head of Washington D.C. and telling the federal government we are tired of stagnation. We need to remind Congress and ourselves that it is only the next step in a ladder of assemblies rooted in provisional authority. America is the People - we are responsible for the sovereignty of the nation, not the federal government. We can demand a change in how we govern ourselves. We can demand amendments to the Constitution which we, the People, ordained and established.
With the precedent of the Philadelphia Convention, we ask for representatives of the States (chosen by a means of State assembly) to gather for a New Constitutional Convention. Given the nature of the present government's corruption, these representatives should not have previously held political office. The goal of this convention would be the revision of the Constitution of the United States however said representatives choose to do so. The Philadelphia Convention set out with the intention of revision of the Articles of Confederation, but ended on the ratification of the Constitution instead, establishing a completely new political entity. The Constitution as it stands speaks highly of equality for the American People, but rooted in a time that meant this only conceptually, does not effect any guarantees. The federal government and its entities work towards their own ends and care little for the non-participating citizen. We have as many homeless as we do empty homes and even the weakest of us is affected by the competition - and sometimes cooperation - of companies larger and more profitable than has ever been seen. There are riots in the streets and public shootings every other week. Faced with nearly wholly affirmed natural disaster, why are we fighting ourselves when we can fight the source? A New Constitutional Convention would be a workshop of some of the brightest Americans to draft a more efficient, effective, and supportive America.
Faced with extreme unrest and a highly ineffectual government, the Founding Fathers met in broad daylight in an era unlike the one when they fought for independence. As celebrities, they created the Constitution while living free under their own declaration. They had the right as the People of the United States to reform their government by proclamation, and so do we. Using technology and brainpower unrivaled in history we have the capability of drafting a government which ensures the rights of all to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and further, that everyone have the capacity to exercise those most basic rights.
The outcome of this convention does not have to be perfect, or even implemented, as that would require a level of unity and shared ideal that these United States have not seen since their foundation. This is a show of distrust and contempt for the present government. Instead of continuing to loyally support their failed efforts, we can completely ignore them or even learn to replace them.
