Florida voters deserve the opportunity to hear directly from both Democratic candidates running for U.S. Senate before casting their ballots in the August primary election.

State Representative Angie Nixon has agreed to debate Lt. Col. Alex Vindman. However, despite public interest and repeated requests for a debate, Vindman has reportedly not agreed to participate.

Debates are an important part of the democratic process. They give voters the opportunity to see candidates engage directly with one another, answer the same questions in real time, and compare their leadership, priorities, and responses side by side instead of through separate appearances or prepared remarks.

A U.S. Senate race is too important for voters to make decisions without that opportunity, and Democratic voters deserve the chance to hear both candidates address the issues impacting Floridians every day, including:

• Rising costs and affordability
• Property insurance and housing
• Public education
• Healthcare
• Reproductive freedom
• Labor rights and unions
• Immigration
• Voting rights and democracy
• Foreign policy
• The future direction of the Democratic Party in Florida.

This petition is simply a request for transparency and accountability. Florida voters should not have to vote for a future U.S. Senator without the opportunity to hear both candidates participate in a public debate.
