Friends of the Kern River,

This week Bring Back the Kern has kicked off a collaboration with local musicians to highlight our need of a flowing Kern River. These musicians are covering "Kern River Blues," Merle Haggard's last recorded song before he died. In it, he sang "I'm leaving town forever," and he lamented that the river was dry. 

Local musicians putting their creative energy towards the cause of a flowing river is just another way Bring Back the Kern is mobilizing all facets of our community to get the river back. 

Putting some water in the Kern before it goes to other uses will be the best use of this public resource and it would not make a significant impact on the amount of water available to agriculture or Kern County municipalities.

Join us in enjoying the newly released versions of Merle's song, and be sure to share them with your friends and family over the holidays. Let's enter 2022 with a lot of momentum to Bring Back the Kern!
