On Tuesday, March 29th from 5:15-6:45pm PDT, Bring Back the Kern is hosting a webinar to illuminate paths for restoring a flowing Kern River. This is part of a series where we will showcase other waterways throughout California that have gone through similar challenges as the Kern River but found ways to compromise and restore water to dried up waterways.
The first waterway we will focus on is Putah Creek - a river about half the size of the Kern in annual flows. In the late 1980s, the last 20 miles of the river ran dry because of water diversions. Farmers and environmental groups came together to craft a widely celebrated solution that ensures that farmers have a predictable and reliable supply of water, while also ensuring that the river never goes dry, even in drought years. Even agricultural interests love the agreement that has restored a flowing waterway!
Join for our online discussion and participate with community leaders, water district stakeholders, farmers, public interest groups, and other community members to learn about how diverse stakeholders on other CA Waterways were able to work together to bring rivers back to life.
