Friends of the Kern River,
On Thursday, 12/9, the State Water Board will be kicking off the first phase of a hearing to decide water rights disputes on the Kern River.
This hearing has taken decades to get to this opportune moment and we can't afford to miss this chance to get water back in the river.
The board is considering what to do with a water rights forfeiture, high flow water rights, and our petition is asking the board to take a comprehensive look at the public trust resources on the river. That means we want them to look at whether the qualities of the river that all of us should have access to are adequately protected (right to navigation, access to recreation, wildlife).
Can you take a minute and get someone else to sign this petition? Ask a friend or family member to sign. We're very close to the milestone of 7,500 signatures, which will be a powerful signal of public support for a flowing river. Help us make it there in the next couple of days before we send all of the new signatures to the Water Board.
Thanks!
The Bring Back the Kern team
