Stop the Lithium mine at Thacker Pass

Stop the Lithium mine at Thacker Pass
We should not be willing to sacrifice entire communities in the name of electrification. The proposed lithium mine in Thacker Pass, Nevada is going to do just that. Sacrifice the land, water, and culture of the People of Red Mountain, the Fort McDermitt Paiute, and the Shoshone Tribes, and it must be stopped.
There is no doubt that Climate Change is going to negatively impact the future of humanity and that to avoid the worst effects of climate change we need to work to electrify our power generation and transportation systems as soon as possible. But to carry on the historical destruction of the right of self-determination of underrepresented groups further perpetuates the unsustainability and injustice of our society and our economic system.
There are other plentiful sources of lithium that require no land destruction, such as geothermal brines in the Salton Sea, that need research and funding to be turned into economically viable sources. This is where the attention of the Department of Energy should turn.
We can not build a sustainable future where some people are sacrificed for the benefit of others. Please join me in signing this petition to stop the Thacker Pass Mine.
