The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is an agency within the United States Department of the Interior that administers more than 247.3 million acres of public lands in the United States. These public lands make up about one-eighth of the landmass of the country. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under its mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In total, the BLM manages outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and works to protect its historic, cultural, and natural resources.
