Build More Skateparks in Clovis

Build More Skateparks in Clovis
The Issue
I recently started skating, and I'm facing a frustrating reality: there is nowhere suitable to skate in Clovis. As a new skater, I'm quickly learning that the options are limited to schools, like high schools and elementary schools, where administration likely doesn’t want us to be. The streets around town are mostly uneven, which doesn’t make for a smooth or safe skating experience.
In a town like Clovis, where the skating community is growing, we desperately need accessible skateparks. For someone like me who is still learning the ropes, the thought of having to travel 3 miles to the Rotary Skate Park—just to turn around and come back—feels daunting. An accessible skatepark within a reasonable distance would make learning to skate much more enjoyable and feasible.
One potential location for a new skatepark is in the abandoned Sears store. Behind this area is already known as a spot some skaters frequent, but an indoor skatepark there could transform it into a safe, welcoming space for all Clovis skaters. Having a designated area would not only foster a sense of community among local skaters but also keep skating activities away from places that may not be welcoming, like school grounds.
According to recent data, skateboarding is becoming increasingly popular, with millions taking up the sport in the United States. Cities that have invested in skateparks often see benefits like increased community engagement and safer environments for neighborhood youth. Skateboarding provides a positive outlet for young people and encourages physical activity—benefits that Clovis would surely enjoy.
Thus, I am calling upon the local government and community organizations to consider this proposal. By setting up new skateparks in Clovis, we can ensure that everyone from beginners to advanced skaters have a place where they feel welcome and supported.
Please sign this petition to help our city recognize the growing need for more accessible skateparks and to give current and future skaters a place they can call their own.
