Build a skatepark in Brightwater

Build a skatepark in Brightwater
The issue
Skateboarding isn't just a hobby for me; it's a passion that brings people together, creates lasting memories, and provides a healthy outlet for creativity and physical activity. Living in Brightwater, I often find myself having to travel over 6 kilometres to the nearest skatepark in Alexandra. This distance poses a significant inconvenience, not just for me but for numerous other skateboarding enthusiasts in our community who have expressed similar concerns.
Brightwater, with its vibrant community spirit, deserves a local facility that accommodates the interests of its residents. A skatepark in our town would not only support the skateboarding community but also offer a safe, inclusive place for youths and families to enjoy recreational activities. It would encourage an active lifestyle, helping to combat childhood obesity and promote mental well-being.
As urban development continues across regions like Brightwater, investing in recreational infrastructure is crucial. Skateparks have proven benefits including reducing crime rates by engaging youth in positive activities and increasing tourism, which could be a boon for local businesses.
Building a skatepark in Brightwater is a realistic and achievable goal. We can allocate space from one of our existing parks, or utilize unused public land to create a community project that unifies residents around a vision of health, creativity, and togetherness. Several successful community-led initiatives across the country have already demonstrated the viability of fundraising drives, volunteer collaborations, and partnerships with local government and businesses to turn ideas like this into reality.
We are calling on the local council to consider this proposal seriously and join us in creating a skatepark in Brightwater. With community support, expert input in skatepark design, and suitable location selection, we can turn Brightwater into a hub for skateboarding and an example of community-driven development.
Join us by signing this petition to advocate for a skatepark in Brightwater. Let's work together to provide a place where everyone can skate, socialize, and thrive.
