Build a new skatepark in the Batemans Bay Area

The issue

As a lifelong skateboarder with 25 years of passion for the sport, I have experienced firsthand the immense benefits skateboarding brings into one's life. Skateboarding offers not only physical health benefits, like improving endurance and coordination, but also mental health benefits, as it encourages resilience, creativity, and stress relief. It also fosters a sense of community.

However, despite my deep love for this activity, there is a glaring issue, the skateparks in our local area are outdated and poorly designed, falling short of accommodating the modern needs of skaters in Batemans Bay, NSW.

With skateboarding's rising popularity, it's crucial that we have a facility that meets current standards for safety and functionality.

Our existing skateparks, sadly, do not provide the conducive environment needed for enthusiasts and newcomers alike to enjoy the sport to its fullest. They lack the contemporary design elements and facilities seen in newer skateparks worldwide. A new skatepark would not only enhance the local community's recreational offerings but also attract visitors, fostering local tourism and economic growth.

According to the Australian Sports Commission, skateboarding's popularity has skyrocketed, becoming the third most popular recreational activity among Australian kids aged 5–14 years old. It's crucial that our town keeps pace with this national trend. Creating a modern skatepark with advanced features such as bowls, rails, and ramps designed to today's standards would nurture local talent and provide a safe space for our youth to exercise and socialize.

Moreover, a new skatepark would offer numerous social benefits. It would be a gathering point for young individuals, a place where they can hone their skills, develop friendships, and engage in a positive and supportive community. By committing to this project, the local council has an opportunity to invest in the health and well-being of our community.

We call upon the Eurobodalla shire council to allocate resources and funding towards the development of a new, state-of-the-art skatepark. This facility is not just about providing a place for skateboarding; it's about building a stronger, more engaging community for everyone. There’s plenty of stunning locations for a skatepark close by like next to the malua bay park for example.
