Build a custom, cast-in-place, concrete skatepark in Lower Makefield Township

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Lower Makefield Township, come together to express our collective need for the establishment of a skatepark within our community.

Recognizing the positive impact that skateparks can have on the well-being and development of individuals, as well as the community as a whole, we urge the Lower Makefield Township Board to consider and support the creation of a safe and accessible skatepark.  As a result of partnership with Lower Makefield Township and successful project completion it is our aim to fulfill unmet needs of skatepark users.

Outlined below are five crucial needs that a skatepark can fulfill within our township:

1. Community Engagement and Inclusivity: A skatepark provides a designated space where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can come together, fostering a sense of community. It encourages social interaction, unity, and a shared passion for skateboarding and other wheeled sports.

2. Healthy Recreation and Physical Activity: Skateboarding is an excellent form of physical exercise that promotes cardiovascular health, coordination, and balance. A skatepark would provide a recreational outlet for residents seeking an alternative to traditional sports, contributing to the overall well-being of our community.

3. Youth Development and Skill Building: Skateboarding is a sport that requires dedication, discipline, and perseverance. By providing a safe and supportive environment for youth to engage in skateboarding, we empower them to develop valuable life skills such as goal-setting, resilience, and teamwork.

4. Reduction of Public Nuisance and Increased Safety: Establishing a designated skatepark can help mitigate issues related to skateboarding in unauthorized, hazardous, or inappropriate areas. A well-designed skatepark with can minimize the negative impact on public spaces, addressing concerns about noise, property damage, and safety.  Further, it can reduce the probability of injuries, as the majority take place outside of skateparks.

5.Tourism and Economic Growth: Skateparks have the potential to attract visitors from neighboring areas, positively impacting local businesses. The creation of a skatepark can contribute to the economic growth of Lower Makefield Township by drawing in enthusiasts, families, and spectators who may explore and patronize local establishments.

In light of these considerations, we respectfully request the Lower Makefield Township Board to explore the feasibility and implementation of a skatepark project. We believe that the establishment of such a facility will enhance our community's quality of life, promote physical well-being, and create a positive and inclusive space for residents of all ages.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to working together to make Lower Makefield Township an even more vibrant and thriving community.

Sincerely,
