Change the A-F grading system of BSD to Pass or Fail

The Issue

In changing times of society the education system of the Beaverton School District is now implementing the idea of the so-called "Distance Learning." This is where we listen to lectures and take tests on an online platform. However, despite changing the way people learn they're stubbornly rigid on keeping the grading system to an A-F system.

The A-F system accurately measures the academic strength of a student under normal circumstances. That is the keyword, "normal circumstances." A global pandemic of an ill-prepared country does not fit the idea of "normal circumstances." A lot of parents are now being laid off due to businesses going under which puts huge amounts of stress to students trying to cope during changing times.

According to an article by Bloomberg, it states that Harvard and other prestigious law schools are now dropping grades as they transition to online classes. Their reason for removing the grades was:

'... fairness, Lester said in her letter. Like most universities, Columbia has sent most students home. Off-campus, some students may have less access than others to technology and health care or may otherwise face difficult circumstances that could hinder their academic performance.

That could then harm their career prospects, as grades have traditionally played a major role in determining which students land top law firm jobs or prestigious judicial clerkships.

“For reasons that are wholly arbitrary, the burdens on some will be heavier than on others,” Lester wrote. Removing most grades would help create a “level playing field.”'

Harvard, one of the most prestigious schools in the world realized that students can't put 100% towards their education during these changing times so neither should yours.
